Blog: Advice


New Media has become a staple in our society today because of its versatility and usefulness. Some ways it could be used includes, promotional, entertainment, business, improvement and even educational purposes. This said, I believe Baruch would benefit tremendously from adapting new medias into their environment to better their students’ experiences. One-way Baruch could use new media is by creating a page similar to Reddit just for Baruch students. On this page classes would be grouped and would enable students to communicate to one another about certain things, such as assignments. This would be very beneficial because if one didn’t know anyone in the class, they could easily find someone in that said class to help them. In addition, they could use it to form study groups or share notes from the class. Professors and faculty would also be able to use it as well to compare teaching methods, along with other things. New media has gotten to the point where it affects all of us each and every day. Technology is everywhere and constantly evolving. By introducing a system of new media similar to this, Baruch as a whole would benefit and would help the process of innovation.

Blog: Wiki So Far

On our class Wiki there are many topics available  that could interest everyone in the class. The wide variety allows for people to add or edit to what others have wrote on topics that interest them. So far I have done both of these things. I focused mostly on the YouTube page where I added two sections titled “Tj Hunt” and “Throtl”. In these sections I wrote about these two channels along with attaching pictures and references. Blog: Creativity

New Media fosters and promotes creativity in many ways. Many companies such as Apple have come up with new ways for people to express themselves. The integration of Memojis and Emojis is one example of how new media promotes creativity. The amount of flexibility one has to do whatever they want with them definitely plays a big role in it too. In Claire Cain Miller’s article, “Twitter Serves Up Ideas from Its Followers,” it shows how not only Apple, but other large corporations use new media to expand and better their products. Miller states that Twitter updates and improves their platform based on their users’ ideas. The creators don’t do much besides analyze what their consumers are saying and taking that and turning it into something new. Besides Twitter and Apple, many companies use this method of gathering ideas from their consumers to create something new. Blog v Wiki

Blogs and wikis are both products of new media that provide information to one reading it; however, there are some key differences. A blog is basically an online journal that allows for a single person to voice their news. A business owner could share news on their business, or a sports athlete could share news on the team. These blogs are mostly for personal use therefore, not everyone has access to make changes or create their own story; however, could create a discussion by leaving comments. A wiki on the other hand provides more access to add, edit or remove information anytime one wants. Groups could coordinate their assignments/activities easily with a click of a button.
