Blog about Twitter

While multiple websites allow for people to have discussions on various topics, different websites allow for a different experience. Twitter and blackboard are both places where people could have a discussion; however, with Twitter it’s not as professional. Twitter allows for only 240 characters, meaning the person is limited to how much they could say. If one wanted to write more, they would need to do it in separate tweets. With blackboard there is no limit to how much one could write. However, Twitter has a more intuitive system of how people are able to respond to others. With the “retweet” feature it opens the discussion to a wider audience and would get straight to the point, due to the character limit. On blackboard, because there is no limit it allows people to fill the discussion up with jargon. In other words, they try to “dress up” their work with fancy words and phrases that they don’t need. In addition, unlike the retweet feature that opens the discussion to others, blackboard only has an option to comment. This limits the amount of exposure it could generate because it won’t be seen unless one clicks into that specific discussion. An in-class discussion is also a good option, but it could make people hesitant to say what they want. One could be shy or just tired that day, causing them to not take part in the discussion and only listen. Yet, in class discussions are interesting because it’s a lot more fluid and could be more entertaining.

  1. I agree with your statement of people being hesitant to speak in an in-class setting. It's not that people do not have any input, but they may be self-conscious or like you said, shy. They are afraid of being judged or making mistakes. Instead, they can turn to Twitter or Blackboard where they do not have to be the subject of stares and freely share their opinions and thoughts.
