Blog: Social networking sites
Websites
such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram could all be very informative
and influential.
Browsing
through Facebook, it's easy to see that it is a very inviting site, filled with pictures,
videos and people’s thoughts. Facebook has updated their site numerous amounts
of times; however, the features that always sticks around are the distinct blue
coloring and its bubbly font. The top part houses numerous “stories,” where people post
temporary pictures and videos, meaning they’ll disappear after 24 hours. To the
top right are certain events like birthdays, with their new marketplace right
below it. The news feed is very user friendly and straight forward which makes it easy to want to keep scrolling down.
Another
social networking site is Twitter. Also covered in blue, Twitter’s blue has a
lighter tone to it. Like Facebook it houses various pictures, videos and
thoughts; however, has a greater emphasis on text. One unique
thing that Twitter has that Facebook doesn’t is a page called “trending.” With
the use of hashtags users view some of the most important news going around
that moment on this page. Anywhere from sports news, to political announcements
to a celebrity having a baby, anything important would be on the “trending”
page, easy to find.
YouTube
is a little different from Facebook and Twitter, but just as inviting and influential,
maybe even more. YouTube is comprised of videos from many different categories
such as cars, makeup, sports and even construction. Unlike the two previous
sites it distinct color is not blue, it’s a dark red. One similarity with
Facebook is that it allows content creators to post “stories” and have a “community”
section where they could ask their viewers questions. YouTubes usability is very effortless,
consisting of typing a topic of interest in the search bar and clicking the
enter key. The home page is very appealing due to its variety of recommend and
trending videos for you to get started with.
Instagram
is a social media site that has to do with pictures. When you log into the site
the first and only things you see are videos and pictures, no text. Granted it’s
not just a collage of pictures but there is very minimum writing. Instagram
also has a popular page where they have a lot of material, they think the user
would be interested in based off what one follows and likes. They were also the
first, other than snapchat who integrated “stories” into their site, opening new dimensions of entertainment.
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram are all different
but also very similar. Most of the features they have on their sites the other
has too. They create an environment where it’s easy to share.
