Blog: Creativity and New Media
A very big and beneficial
product of new media is the ability for one to create an avatar, which fosters creativity.
It allows people to use their imagination and make any kind of avatar they want
for which they could use to do things they wouldn’t be able to do in real life.
These avatars are usually products of virtual worlds such as NBA 2K20 and even Bitmojis,
that is integrated with snapchat.
With NBA 2K20, kids and adults from any age have an opportunity
to live out their dreams as NBA players through the Myplayer game mode. While
it’s not real, it allows people to get an idea of how things really are in the NBA and
feel closer to the league and the players. Through this mode people could
select different body types, haircuts, facial hair, tattoos, clothes, height,
playing style and many more. There are a lot of options of customization which
allows one to be unique.
Another product that allows for the customization of an
avatar is Bitmoji. This works really close with Apple and Snapchat. I have created
a Bitmoji avatar by first downloading the app and connecting it with my Snapchat.
After a big menu popped up titled “Avatar Style,” where I was able to pick head
shapes. Next was skin tone, hair style and color, facial hair style and color,
eye shape and color, eyebrows, nose and many more options. I could have gone
over the top with pink hair and purple eyes, but I decided to do something more
realistic. Its flexibility is very key, it could show my avatar drinking a soda
while the big bang is going on alongside dinosaurs or hanging out with a big
slice of bacon wearing sunglasses. It allows me to obtain funny little pictures of "myself" that I could use through texting or other apps.
